Madison, Wis. (March 27, 2006) – Sub-Zero Freezer Company and Wolf Appliance Company, industry leaders in residential refrigeration, wine storage and cooking instruments, recently named the national winners of the company’s prestigious 2004/05 Kitchen Design Contest at a special ceremony at The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL, March 16-19.
Three national winners were recognized in the category of best kitchen utilizing a full-size Sub-Zero built-in 600 Series or integrated 700 Series unit and Wolf cooking instrument, and were hand-picked from a group of 48 regional winners.
Michael Neumann, Architect, Jairo Camelo and Daniel Gillen from Michael Neumann Architecture LLC in New York City took first place, and were awarded a $20,000 grand prize. Neumann’s clients, a philanthropic couple, needed a semi-professional kitchen that could both accommodate the materials needed to cook for and seat up to 50 people, and also provide a welcoming atmosphere in which the family and staff can eat and work. Neumann’s team designed the prefect kitchen to address the multiple activities of the family and house staff.
“I am so honored to have won this award,” said Neumann. “This contest is so much bigger than appliances—it’s a true testament to the design industry.”
Elaine Cecconi, of Cecconi Simone Inc. in Toronto, Ontario, took second place and was awarded a $10,000 prize. Cecconi was tasked with creating an elegant minimalist kitchen that would be separate and distinct from the adjoining living area.
“My goal was to create two individual spaces and give this kitchen more life and depth by incorporating intricate custom details,” said Cecconi. “Sub-Zero and Wolf products are top of the line and they allow for such great versatility that my design would have been impossible without them.”
David Jameson of David Jameson Architects in Alexandria , Va. , received $5,000 for his third-place prize. Judges were especially impressed with Jameson’s adept use of the limitless integration possibilities available from Sub-Zero and Wolf – he created a kitchen that is virtually unrecognizable as such because the appliances are incorporated so seamlessly.
“This competition pairs the best of the best – the best kitchen designers around the country work with the highest quality kitchen products manufactured to create truly stunning designs,” said Jameson. “I am thrilled to have my work noted amongst industry leaders such as these.”
Additional Category Winners
Special award prizes were also distributed in several categories. Michael David Bright from Bright Woodworks Inc. in St. Petersburg, Fla., received the award for best use of Sub-Zero wine equipment in a unique location. Scott Grandis, CKD, and Carmen Schultz from Bella Cucina Inc. in Sylvan Lake, Mich., received the best use of integrated refrigeration outside the kitchen. Enrico Longoni, Stefano Gorla and Yoko Ono from Eurostyling SRL in Milan, Italy, and Cara Marie S. Marcelo from Focus Global Inc., in Mandaluyong City, Philippines, both won the international category for best use of Sub-Zero and/or Wolf. Special category winners were awarded $10,000 each.
Jamie Miller, formerly a student at Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, Minn., and currently working with Aladdin Remodelers on Long Island, New York , won the first-ever student category for best use of Sub-Zero and Wolf. A scholarship of $10,000 was donated to Miller’s alma mater and Miller was personally awarded $2,500. Additionally, Miller’s design will be featured as a fully-built kitchen vignette in the Sub-Zero and Wolf booth at the 2006 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Chicago, April 21-23, 2006.
All regional and special category winners won an expense-paid trip for two to The Breakers and a $500 cash award. The regional winners of the 2004/2005 Sub-Zero/Wolf Kitchen Design Contest are:

Since its inception in 1993, the Sub-Zero/Wolf Kitchen Design Contest has become the coveted win in the professional home design category. The Kitchen Design Contest is held every two years and recognizes kitchen designers, architects, interior designers and builders for advancing outstanding kitchen design. The 2004/2005 Kitchen Design Contest marks the seventh contest.
More than 1,000 entries were received from professional kitchen designers around the world and were carefully reviewed by a panel of seven independent judges in the industry. Entries were judged on the aesthetical and functional use of the space and the functional placement of the Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances along with innovative and brilliant kitchen design.
